If you need to communicate confidentially, use Signal, not email. German police once demanded the IP addresses of Posteo customers and Posteo did not—could not—deliver because they (intentionally) don't even save IP addresses. If you need your own domain (like david@davidculley.eu rather than david@posteo.de), then I recommend Mailbox.org. Posteo doesn't support custom domains. Mailbox costs 300% of Posteo's price though. In any case, Proton (via ProtonMail) should not be supported.
