I recommended the Alasdair Gray short story Logopandocy to someone in the pub last night, and now I need to let them know that – although I stand by the recommendation – it is 60pp long and for much of that length it is willfully (if playfully) impenetrable. And that I will not take offense if they bounce off of it and do not even reach the part I described to them.

  • I don't mind saying this because Gray said* that one of the advantages of the illustrations in the book was that if the reader was gaining nothing from a story they could skip over it and still enjoy the illustrations, so not bear the author any ill will. * (I'm fairly confident though I can't now find the quote! If I do I will add it here...)
