I'd love to draft up a new software license that's basically MIT but with a toxic clause that says "if you use this to train an AI tool, you're obligated to pay the author $10M" or similar.
Does something like this exist?
#FuckAI #SoftwareLicensing

@stevegrunwell@phpc.social not that i heard of but there is absolutely nothing stopping you from writing those words in and seeing what happens. it will instantly become gpl incompatible im sure, but, gpl also sucks.

@stevegrunwell@phpc.social Technically, just about any OSS author/maintainer could likely sue for license infringement due to failure to attribute (which is required by each of MIT, BSD, and Apache licenses) and/or failure to open source changes (required by GPL). The problem is nobody has the money to take these to court, due to the deep pockets backing the AI industry. 🫤
