Good morning data nerds! Here is a fun one I made this weekend looking into some subnational data: 170 years of European nitrogen surplus (1850–2019) 🟢 = crops take up what's applied. 🔴 = heavy surplus: nitrogen on fields that ends up in water and air. The darkest reds in Flanders and the Netherlands: the never really faded. Data: @ufz / Batool et al. 2025, Nature Food. #data #dataviz #nitrogen #agriculture #farming #animatedGIF #map #climate
