any intel power management sickos on here? i've got a Raptor Lake thinkpad x1 cabrón here. openbsd 8.0 runs pretty well and even supports s0ix sleep, except that the cpu package seems to always run hot irrespective of set clock speed or sleep state. as near as i can tell, all of the necessary PCIe devices get sent to D3 (i checked the LPS0 constraints on the PMC), the CPUs go to C6/C7, and the GPU to DC5, but the package never goes below PC3 power state. what might be keeping the cpu hot?

@joe@f.duriansoftware.com watch -n 5 cat /sys/kernel/debug/pmc_core/package_cstate_show You should have some higher states than C2/C3 ticking up. C6 is good, C8 might be better but isn't mandatory. I have one tablet that just won't do higher saving states with BT on. Maybe it's doing evil shit in smm, idk.

@joe@f.duriansoftware.com i have one N100 tablet that just won't go to PC6 if the bluetooth is on. Computers are dumb.

@nina_kali_nina@tech.lgbt pardon the ping but my fedisearch skills are failing me. i recall you mentioning NetBSD needing a kernel change to unlock all the P-states on one of your CPUs. wondering if something similar is going on here

@joe@f.duriansoftware.com Completely different generation but I found some bios settings have a major effect on things for me. In my case BIOS assist mode for the thunderbolt port is a must and then avoiding using it entirely or a system task decides to keep one core hot enough to never lower power states. Might be something you can toggle... I just had to brute force lots of different knobs until I found this.
