@GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai Its like guns though. Yes, guns don't kill people, people do. But when people want to go big, they use guns. This is why putting restrictions on guns is a proven harm reduction strategy. Not a fix for a broken society, but a person can only stab so many people at a time before somebody deals with them. AI doesn't kill anybody and it's often wrong about stuff. But it's really, really good at surveillance and powering a fascistic police state. AI doesn't kill, fascists do. And preventing fascists from spending all our money on building the tools they need to monitor our every movement as they hunt for new enemies of the state seems like a reasonable harm reduction strategy.
