Today in stupid interface design: Put an unusable "update" button on a page that has no updatable information. Just to distract the user from the update button elsewhere which *does* work.

If I were writing software to remind people of appointments, I would make sure that to include the date, AND the time, AND the address of the office in EVERY notice. Crazy, huh?

NEW: Conservative powerbroker Cleta Mitchell has raised a grassroots army to transform American voting systems and worked closely with the administration to enact her plans. No one besides Trump himself has done more to overhaul elections. https://www.propublica.org/article/cleta-mitchell-elections-trump?utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mastodon-post #News #Politics #USPolitics #Law #Trump #Election #Vote #Voting #Midterms

Phyllis Munday: Conqueror of the Rockies Mountaineer and naturalist Phyllis Munday was a true trailblazer. In 1924, she and Annette Buck were the first women to summit Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. A skilled cartographer, she also mapped over 180 square kilometres of BC's wilderness, a significant contribution to Canadian geography. #Canada #Mountaineering #WomenInHistory #CanadaIsAwesome 🇨🇦 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phyllis_Munday

📬 Trunk & Tidbits for September 2026 is now out! Our monthly blog post series is there to showcase what we worked on last month. A lot happened last month in preparation of our upcoming Mastodon 5.0 release. We also merged an optimisation to account deletion federation (which requires signed fetches for accounts), a few improvements to the moderation panel and to our FASP integration. https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2026/10/trunk-tidbits-september-2026/ #mastodev #mastoadmin #TrunkAndTidbi...

I ordered a 512 GB iPhone 18 Pro Max on Saturday. It was ordered around 10 AM Eastern. I just received an email saying it's on backorder. I won't receive it for approximately 4 weeks. At least that's what Rogers is currently saying. Oh well, nothing I can do but wait.

This is my first post from the new iPhone 18 Pro Max! I've actually had it for a week, but I just got back on Mastodon.

I know "inside of you, there are two wolves" is thoroughly silly, but, also, it pretty much completely describes the history and present of the United States. One wolf is slavery, Manifest Destiny, the Chinese Exclusion Act, the Trail of Tears, Jim Crow, ICE, "replacement theory". The other is the inscription on the Statue of Liberty, birthright citizenship, Composite Nation, Civil Disobedience, the melting pot, the Shining City on the Hill.

Wait, are "bels" metric? Like, decibels implies centibels and kilobels? Megabels? Petabels? *does not go to look this up*
