Riding the storm out...Marvin really wanted to go outside. In the middle of a Nor'Easter, I wouldn't blame him if he didn't go, but he braved it. Now he's wrapped up in a nice warm blanket. #DogsOfMastodon #Pugs #noreaster

I'm exploring the concept of retroactive impeachment for Trump. Impeach him, but backdate it to last year. This way, any pardon he writes for himself will be invalid since he wasn't in office. It also makes everything he's done an unofficial act, rendering the Supreme Court decision re: Trump and official acts moot and holding him accountable. #notalawyer #impeachment #hypothetical

Everyone else on here is too old to remember kid's TV programme Watt on Earth. As a kid it felt very off and made me uncomfortable. It was about a shape-shifting alien stranded on Earth. But the alien was effectively an adult man who turned up at a boy's house, stopped the boy from telling any adults about him, and then lived in the boy's bedroom. That setup was a dodgy thing to teach.

Today's spam emails can't decide (between them) if I'm too hot or too cold. Presumably spreading their geographic bets.

When a publication (e.g. Bylines) starts with a deceptive design pattern like this, how can trust be built in their writing? Making "Reject" almost imperceptible means I can't trust your "Accept all" is as harmless and that you genuinely think PRIVACY MATTERS. Also, you can _count_ readers without all the cookies.

I'm struggling to have any motivation in life at the moment. Everything feels like a vast effort.

All UK electricity companies I've ever used are dodgy with their billing. They have _always_ over-estimated my usage which they always use as an excuse to over-charge me in advance. They constantly put up my direct debits to get increasing interest-free loans from me. They almost always use the excuse that energy use can vary across a year (obvs) so they need to build up a large stockpile of credit. That excuse sounds most plausible at this time of the year but I've had it in spr...

New blogpost: Buying a refurbished PC I bought my last PC in 2014. An upgrade is well overdue, but I don't want to pay 2026 prices. https://mattellery.co.uk/posts/2026/09/29/buying-a-refurbished-pc/

A question for Fedizens in #Sussex that have submitted a report to Operation Crackdown https://operationcrackdown.org/ Have you ever had any feedback about the result of your report? #walking #cycling #police

@neil Same, considering all three admins were pretty explicit from day 1 that it was just a passing interest for them. Did anyone actually think it was likely to last long-term?

I've set up my new PC (I had the intrusive thought that I had accidentally formatted my /home partition, happens every time.) Now to download all the games that I bought on Steam years ago, but haven't been able to play because I was running a 4th gen Intel CPU and a GTX 980.

Happy Monday fedizens. I didn't have a lot of time for weekend projects this week, but I did manage to transfer my domain name from Namecheap to @beasts last night. The transfer was smoothly completed in minutes. I'm feeling much better about supporting a group of diligent nerds in Britain instead of a venture capital backed conglomerate entity with a rapidly decreasing reputation.
