Cultural Heritage Digital Collections: Unwelcome Guests on Social Media, Homeowners on the Social Web There is a silent crisis unfolding before our eyes — and most cultural institutions have yet to grasp its full dimension. According to the Pew Research Center, 38% of web pages that existed in 2013 are no longer accessible a decade later. We are not talking about abandoned personal blogs or forgotten websites. We are talking about historical records, artistic productions, cultural documents —...

I can be angry about rising fascism and also angry about facial recognition built into surveillance glasses at the same time, not only because these things are directly related, but because I contain fucking multitudes and all them are mad all the goddamn time.

Andy Burnham could be a good prime minister. He'd be off to a great start if he made school meals free for every child.

web findings 11 https://britthub.co.uk/web-findings-11/ This time I’ve been gathering links for at least six weeks. It’s been the summer holidays and I have a young child so my time has been very occupied. Here are some of the things I found in spare moments or just before the holidays started and then didn’t get round to posting sooner. Beautiful […] #Bookmarks #DnD #inspiration #map #resources

Just thinking about education being entirely separated from everyday life. As if it's something only children do. As if you can stop learning at 16. As if learning only happens inside a classroom under the guidance of a teacher. And now I'm thinking about the difference between learning and education. And now I'm thinking about how it's weird that adults don't play more. What a morning. It's only 8:30.

What would you sell to keep your children from going hungry? I'm Tareq, a father of five in Gaza. After my fundraiser was closed for two months, my debts reached $700. Now I'm forced to sell my phone—the only thing I have left—just to feed my children and pay part of my debt. If you can, please donate. If not, please share my story. One share could save my family. @gvenema@fairmove.net https://chuffed.org/project/190606-please-help-tariq-look-after-his-five-children

I just wrote about how good open weight models like GLM-5.3 are these days, and how you really don't need ChatGPT or Claude at all anymore, even for complex agentic stuff https://micahflee.com/just-say-no-to-openai-and-anthropic/

New report out on 1.5°C: If we take the legally binding 1.5°C limit seriously, emissions from every new internal combustion vehicle, every new gas heating system and every new fossil-fuel-based industrial plant will eventually have to be removed from the atmosphere, which is a complex and costly undertaking. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/sep/02/global-heating-warming-1-8c-best-case-scenario-un-united-nations-environment-programme-report

#niewiederistjetzt

Trotz langsamer Diplomatie schreiten Erneuerbare, Batterien, E-Autos/LKW, Wärmepumpen und elektrische industrielle Prozesse voran. Now I understand why piracy hasn't been stopped: I got assigned to work on an anti-piracy tool, and the team lead seems to not understand how the internet, IPs, domains, browsers, servers, or anything works.
